Product Care

Some of the items you buy from us will need care down the road. And some will need instructions for immediate use. Follow the simple guidelines below to make sure your new prize is best cared for and lives the longest life possible in you home!

Wooden Spoons

Your wooden spoon is finished with either common mineral oil or Howards Feed and
Wax (which is bees wax and orange oil).

The most important thing to remember in care of your new spoon or utensil is to
never soak it in water or detergent of any kind more than a few minutes. Do not use
an automatic dishwasher of any kind to clean it. Simply wet it thoroughly with soapy
water (warm or hot is fine), scrub lightly and rinse well. Let it dry completely and
place it in your drawer.

In time the surface of your utensil may become rough.
This is normal. Simply re-sand it smooth with
sandpaper and refinish with mineral or the Howards
Feed and Wax. Depending how rough it becomes, you
may need to use increasing grit sizes to get it back
where it was when you purchased it. We recommend
that you take it up to at least 400 grit. Once the sanding
is done, you can apply a new coat of either common
mineral or a coat of the Feed N Wax. Both can be easily
found online. Here are links to Howards Feed N Wax
and common mineral. Do not use cooking oil as it will become rancid. Wipe the Howards down well, let it set for an hour, then polish as you see fit. The mineral oil needs to soak in well. It also needs to sit about an hour.

Except for Redwood spoons, all of our spoons are sanded to 800 grit for the finest surface smoothness.
